Classicism reinvented

Ligne, the showroom dedicated to contemporary design on the Galerie du Roi in Brussels, is splitting in two and opening a branch: Signe Brussels, Rue de Namur. Under the expert direction of Oona Simon. A stylish showroom that is also a home design studio. With a noted taste for iconic designer furniture and ‘classics’ from the 20th century.

When you think of design in Brussels, one name stands out: Ligne. A beautiful space in the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert which has been highlighting iconic furniture from the best Italian, Scandinavian and Belgian designer manufacturers for 60 years. In 2021, the interior designer, Oona Simon, who inherited the directorship of Ligne from her father, opened a second showroom, Signe Brussels, at 48 Rue de Namur (in the neighbourhood of the former Banque du Congo Belge). Two distinct spaces but united by the same desire for choice, functionality and durability. The best of European design! These include the brands Knoll, Edra, Cassina, Molteni, De Padova, Vitra, Fritz Hansen. But also Made-in-Belgium labels: Limited Edition bespoke rugs, Jeroen De Ruddere lamps, Per/Use furniture.
Clean lines, practical layout, quest for perfection in the furniture presented: the ‘Signe style’ stands out. Signe also has a design office specialising in interior design and décor. Oona Simon and her colleague, Violette Jourez, both in their 30s, are (re)arranging, revamping, transforming, expanding, decorating and furnishing the showroom, or parts thereof. Their understated and timeless décor, without necessarily being minimalist, is very pleasing and epitomises the new wave of modern classicism.
