The multidisciplinary design studio Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel was commissioned to create a design for the Mandarin Oriental, Milan that serves as a showcase for the visual richness of the hotel brand. The result is a “classic” Milanese style that is cleverly paired with highly decorative materials and intense colours. The overall effect is tempered by the design language so redolent of Citterio.
Seta, the restaurant entrusted to the talented hands of chef Antonio Guida, invites guests to delve into sophisticated Italian cuisine, while the Mandarin Garden serves delicious cocktails and aperitivo in an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and conviviality.
The rooms, meanwhile, have managed to achieve just the right balance between Milanese elegance and functionality, creating a sense of home from home. The contemporary-style interiors exude exceptional comfort. The floors are laid with oak parquet, the walls covered in oak and walnut panelling, and every piece of furniture has been sourced from the finest Italian companies, with bespoke pieces designed by Antonio Citterio. The colour palette of the textiles, upholsteries and velvet carpets is astonishingly varied. Fresh linen curtains and headboards play on myriad shades of beige, complemented by a variation on the theme of purple to create a refined, contemporary yet warm and welcoming environment. The generous Italian marble bathrooms, with their picture windows overlooking the hotel’s inner courtyard or the city’s rooftops, offer breathtaking views of the city.
On the well-being front, the hotel spa, designed in keeping with feng shui principles, provides a range of treatments inspired by traditional Chinese medicine, for a holistic relaxation experience.
