Book your stay at a top address in Lombardy
Stay in one of the most beautiful places to visit on Lake Como
Breathtaking panoramic views, privacy and luxurious services, the five-star boutique hotel Il Sereno Lago di Como combines many advantages. Distinguished by numerous awards since its opening in 2016, this hotel is the second address of the Sereno Group. It follows the aptly named Sereno in the French West Indies. A contemporary, discreet and exclusive resort, located on the seafront, near the popular beaches of Du Grand Cul De Sac, on the island of Saint-Barth.
Il Serano Lago di Como is also idyllically situated, just a stone’s throw from the village of Torno. This charming village is the starting point for many bucolic walks and hikes. The easiest of these are along Lake Como. Others, reserved for experienced sportsmen, lead to picturesque heights.
In Lombardy, Lake Como can be reached by car or train in about an hour from the centre of Milan, a little less from Malpensa International Airport. To the north of the lake, the famous town of Bellagio with its ochre-faced buildings, which have seen the greatest artists and statesmen, is only about 50 minutes away by road.
Airport transfers in Maserati and water rides in Riva
Il Sereno seduces its guests even before their arrival. Upon reservation, the hotel provides Maserati luxury cars at Milan airport. A historic brand, synonymous with power, style and Italian design. Guests arriving by air can have the freedom to reach Il Sereno on their own by this means of transport. A high-flying introduction to the spirit of la dolce vita.
The top-of-the-range Riva boats, another reference for quality, comfort and made in Italy services, are also available for unforgettable trips on Lake Como. Go to the darsena, the quay where the boats are moored, at the foot of which the Il Sereno hotel has been built.
Of the three boats made especially for Il Sereno, two can be borrowed by hotel guests, either for a day’s hire or for a few hours, in the great tradition of discovering Lake Como by boat. Wooden models made by the renowned shipbuilder Cantiere Ernesto Riva, active in the area since 1771.
The first contemporary hotel to be built on Lake Como
Enjoy a weekend in the unique modern architecture of the region
From the outside, the Il Sereno Lago di Como boutique hotel owes the modernist form of its building to the work of Giuseppe Terragni, the Italian architect from whom it was inspired. The Rationalist is renowned for having built the Casa del Fascio in Como (1936), the former local headquarters of the Fascist party.
In contrast to this strict historical building, where concrete, steel and glass predominate on the facade, Il Sereno uses natural and precious materials both inside and out: wood, stone and leather or bronze, according to the layout defined by architect and designer Patricia Urquiola. Touches of deep browns, vibrant greens and pearl greys are mixed in for the pleasure of the eye. Everything to distinguish Il Sereno from the outdated architectural landscape of the surroundings; a mixture of buildings with deceptively Renaissance and neoclassical architecture and decoration.
A five-star hotel of unprecedented luxury furnished by the great names in design
The year after she took over as artistic director of the design manufacturer Cassina, Patricia Urquiola signed the Four Seasons Milan. Following this achievement in 2016, Sereno Group president Luis Contreras gave the Spanish interior architect and designer carte blanche to design Il Sereno.
Just as on the outside, the interior of Il Sereno Hotel Lago di Como is unconventional and contrasts sharply with the neighbouring luxury hotels.
40 large rooms and suites and two penthouses, from 65 to 200 square metres and with terraces, await the most demanding travellers. Aesthetes will ask for the key to the Signature Penthouse, which will open the doors to a warm universe where prestigious furniture reissues coexist with some of the most original and elegant novelties available. A cutting-edge selection of pieces by Franco Albini produced by Cassina, ceramics by Bitossi, cc-carpets and emblematic products designed by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia and Moroso, and models designed by the Italian master Gio Ponti.
For those looking for inspiration, the Il Sereno Hotel online shop even has a selection of these pieces of furniture and objects for sale.
Gardens of a great botanist and starred gastronomic table
The celebration of nature and respect for the environment, as well as a particular attention to detail in terms of comfort and aesthetics, define designer Patricia Urquiola’s approach to her work, and the creation of the five-star Il Sereno hotel is a perfect reflection of this. The hotel’s terraces are home to several vertical gardens designed by Patrick Blanc, the inventor of the green wall, whom the designer invited. As an artist, the botanist and biologist has installed not one but three permanent works – a world first for the Frenchman.
Finally, the cuisine at Il Sereno Lago di Como celebrates the origins and history of the Lake Como region. Overseen by top chef Rafaelle Lenzi, the menu at the Michelin-starred Il Sereno Al Lago Ristorante offers a selection of dishes made with local ingredients and paired with regional wines.
A perfect dinner begins with an aperitivo in the lobby, where a sublime wooden staircase designed by Studio Urquiola stands out. The bar menu at Il Sereno, designed by professional mixologists, combines spirits with the best seasonal ingredients and mainly natural sugars, so you can sip a cocktail without worrying about the next day… while watching the sunset over Lake Como.
