Nevertheless, the owners were keen to include a touch of modernity: smooth concrete, mortar and, above all, space; the bathrooms are gigantic and the room ceilings majestically high! The central area, built between the outdoor restaurant and the boutique reception, has a breathtaking wooden frame yet the atmosphere is cosy with its wooden and rattan armchairs, black and gold metal suspension (Pomax) and enchanting decorative objects, including a collection of bronze-effect wild animals; a fitting presence given the nearby jungle…
A place for everyone
As for the food, the delicious mix of Mediterranean and Oriental cuisine hits just the right note among guests, amazed to find such a wide range in Senegal. The hosts’ wish is to offer simple but fine dishes using local products of very high quality. The view accompanying the meal is equally tasteful: the large azure blue swimming pool and the hotel towels carrying the Yokan logo. Nearby is the wooden bar with its very own fire basket, the ideal place to try out the renowned (and generous) signature house cocktails before sitting down to eat! And right at the very end: the ocean… Horse riders regularly pass by, further adding to the mellow vibe. “At the Yokan, everything has been designed to meet everyone’s needs: whether our guests come for a romantic break, a family holiday or as part of a group of friends, everything is possible. With the ultra-equipped Kids Club, parents can relax with complete peace of mind”, explains the owner.
A well-earned rest
The Yokan is comprised of two large two-bedroom villas with a large adjoining pool, three ocean view suites and three garden view suites, which also come with their own private pool.
Each bathroom boasts its own shower and bath, along with a selection of beautiful, colourful towels. The rooms are equipped with a small fridge while a safe is provided in the walk-in wardrobe. As water is not drinkable in Senegal, a stunning brass carafe is placed on the bedside table and on the bathroom shelf every day.
The rooms at the Yokan are dazzling, and everything has been thought of to make the stay more than pleasant: the sheets are incomparably soft, the beach bag is right there waiting for guests! Each room has its own television, the walk-in wardrobes are vast and the desk allows you to organise your belongings or, for those who find the courage, to work.
The suites have been laid out with a nicely decorated corner lounge on either side. At the Yokan, it is also possible to enjoy your meal on a private terrace, whether in the morning, at noon or in the evening. Or why not tuck into an appetizing lobster grilled in front of the pool when the birds fall quiet and nature calls it a night? This is the moment that the sunset right in front of us decides to put on its natural show of glory. A signal that the time has almost come to fall into the arms of the sandman yourself and wait for the next morning, because here the sun always rises.
Time for adventure, without roughing it, as happiness is here at our feet.
After a brief gym session, it’s time to wrench yourself away from the Yokan to indulge in one of the many activities available. On horseback for the most adventurous… Or why not mount one of the property’s Quads that will carry you off to discover the surroundings, stopping off on the way for a typical lunch.
On your return from this memorable outing, enjoy the well-deserved opportunity to lounge by the pool or even book a treatment at the spa. Various massages are available, as well as impeccable manicures and pedicures and feel-good facials!
It is impossible to leave without an excursion on a pirogue. These are charming old African boats that whisk you away to discover the mangrove, everything so well organised that you will be surrounded at all time by all your creature comforts. The team will accompany you to cater to your every need at every instant, turning the barbecue and everything else into an authentic experience.
After a forty-five-minute boat ride, enough time to observe the surrounding beauty that has already worked its charm on us, the crew starts setting up camp, complete with multicoloured tent, big cushions with African motifs, chairs and carpets! The only thing you have to do is to relish the moment and tell yourself that you are extremely lucky to be here, to be seizing the day.
A stay at the Yokan Lodge is a guarantee of a successful holiday, only 5 hours by plane and without the slightest bit of jet lag to boot!
