Marie-Marie : Belgian bed linen
The family business “Marie-Marie“, run by sisters Valérie and Laurence, has been offering a wide range of bed linen of impeccable quality for over forty years. Thanks to their years of experience, they know better than anyone how to create the best comfort for sleeping and bathing. Years of know-how are the basis for their own brand “Marie-Marie”, which consists of high-quality comforters, pillows and eiderdowns.
The comforters from the “Linen Stories” collection deserve a special mention. The 100% washed linen of this product line has been subjected to rigorous quality controls and is durable, airy and beautiful: ideal for a warm summer. The double stitching of the pillowcases in the collection also ensures extra comfort.
Magniberg: Scandinavian bedding
After a career in the fashion industry, Swedes Bengt Thornefors and Nina Norgren founded the Magniberg bedding brand. Cultural references, refined craftsmanship and a modern aesthetic characterize the label. Magniberg combines unconventional textures and colors, such as faded black and pink jersey against shiny white satin, or striped blue oxford against white poplin with mother-of-pearl buttons.
The minimalist bedding is designed to be mixed and matched: textures and colors can be combined at will according to personal preference. The brand’s fashion-forward approach is to conceive of bedding as a means of personal expression. To learn more about Scandinavian design, click here.
Crisp Sheets: crisp cotton bedding
“Crisp Sheets” from Amsterdam is the successful result of founder Lara Ourtane’s search for the perfect bedding. With her brand, she wants to offer quality, aesthetics and affordability at the same time.
She produces the crispest cotton available using a special weaving technique that she keeps secret. The bed sheets from the heavenly “Crisp Cotton” collection are not only beautiful, they don’t need ironing and keep the wonderful feeling of a freshly made bed for days. For lovers of soft as peach sheets, the “Smoothy” product line was created, made of 100% organic cotton sateen.
Bonsoirs: bed linen worthy of a five-star hotel
The French company “Bonsoirs” manufactures hotel-quality bed linen made of 100% long-fiber cotton. The long fibers guarantee not only a soft feel but also a long life. The bath and bed linen is also produced in a sustainable and responsible way in France.
Bonsoirs sheets are available in different materials such as percale cotton, ideal for those who are warm at night and seek lightness, softness and freshness; satin cotton for those who seek pure luxury with a silky touch; and finally washed linen for those who want to combine airy comfort and aesthetics.
This summer, the brand’s cozy “perfect plaid” in washed linen is also a hit: it’s perfect for summer evenings on the terrace or as a bedspread. The plaid is light, breathable and available in four natural matte colors.
SUITE702: premium bedding with a playful twist
Chances are, the name SUITE702 rings a bell. In 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent a week in bed there to celebrate world peace. The name of the high-end bath and bedding brand SUITE702 is a nod to that famous bed-in. Dutchmen Shirley Muijrers and Olaf Arkauer use their experience in textile design and branding to produce a colorful collection of bedding from luxury materials.
The latest colors in the SUITE702 collection were inspired by stylist, colorist and visual artist Thomas Vermeer. He visited La Muralla Roja, the post-modernist apartment complex in Spain designed by architect Ricardo Bofill, and photographed the pastel-colored walls. Shirley and Olaf found the color combination in this photo so refreshing that it inspired their new collection. The combination of lilac gray, powder pink, sky blue and ochre gold is surprisingly unique.
In terms of quality, the bedding is no different from their previous collections: they chose organic percale cotton as the base material. The result is impeccable and wonderfully smooth comforter covers, fitted sheets, pillowcases and bedspreads.
Mirabel Slabbinck: bedding handmade in Bruges
Gold embroiderer Hendrik Slabbinck set up his own workshop in Bruges in 1903 which grew into an international reference in the field of liturgical vestments. Today, granddaughter Mirabel Slabbinck offers a refined collection of bed, bath and table linens that are still made by hand in the Venice of the North. Craftsmanship and an eye for detail are central to ‘Mirabel Slabbinck’ as well as age-old techniques that are passed down from generation to generation.
In addition, ‘Mirabel Slabbinck’ attaches great importance to sustainability. For example, the bedding is made from sustainable Belgian linen and fine cotton. Furthermore, each item is made to measure so that there is no overstock. Finally, the atelier makes linen bags from the limited fabric leftovers in which the various items are packed.
In addition to manufacturing her own collections, Mirabel Slabbinck also works on tailor-made projects for private homes, yacht and aircraft interiors all over the world.
Yumeko: durable bath and bed linen
Besides bedding, linen is also perfect for bathing. After all, linen absorbs like the best, dries quickly, is sturdy, durable, hypoallergenic and antibacterial. The waffle pattern towels from the Dutch bath and bedding brand Yumeko not only look beautiful in any bathroom, they also absorb better than classic linen and are a lot more durable than cotton.
The brand also makes it a priority to produce their entire range 100% ecological. The towels with waffle pattern are made from French flax. This plant is harvested in its entirety so no extra waste is produced. Moreover, the production process of French flax uses four times less water than organic cotton. Moreover, chemical insecticides and weed killers are not allowed in the cultivation of the plant. Finally, Yumeko looked for a SA-800-certified factory for spinning and weaving the linen. This certificate guarantees good social conditions regarding safety, working hours, wages and minimum age.
