Interior design guidelines by Laurence Sonck

To the rigor of the volumes, she couples an arty touch. In all the spaces she creates, she distills clues that reflect the personality of the occupants. Laurence Sonck practices her work intuitively and engages in a rich dialogue with her clients. Because her architectural practice is linked to the essential and, above all, to the human.

Laurence Sonck, a Brussels-based interior designer, is interested not only in the spaces she designs and furnishes, but also in the people who live in them. Self-taught, she has developed a distinct sense of exchange and a listening ear, which are indispensable to meet the expectations of her clients, who are now mainly private, not only Belgian but also international. She accompanies her clients in their search for comfort and light, advises them and guides their choices. What is important is that they participate and invest in their project, under the guidance of a professional.

A generous style

The interiors she designs offer the right balance between chic elegance and a warm atmosphere. Having learned through psychology how to discover her clients’ true desires, her approach is distinguished by personalized proposals to customize an interior. “I do not hesitate to integrate works of art to give the space character, make it less classical and offer visual surprises” . Open volumes, flowing circulation, authentic and natural materials incorporated in a contemporary way, his art of making and living breathes well-being.

An exceptional project

In this 450 m2 penthouse flat, a combination of two independent spaces, Laurence Sonck carried out a total renovation and raised the roof of the building to a height of 4 m. “For this space of extraordinary dimensions, the owners gave me carte blanche, indicating that they wanted to reserve a special place for the master bedroom. We chose to work this volume with unique pieces that fit the exceptional character of the space.” The kitchen and reception area occupy the entire volume of one of the two apartments. The large reception areas required custom furniture, rugs, dining room tables, etc.

Noble materials such as white Calacatta marble were preferred. It is mainly used in the bathroom. The master bedroom, with its dressing room and bathroom, is a space of more than 110 m2. The XXL bathtub allows two people to lie side by side in a bubble bath. The spacious living room, bordered by lighting integrated into the suspended ceiling, plays the card of Italian design, paying attention to beautiful materials, crafted with refined finishes and details.

The importance of outdoor space

Two terraces were constructed  on a total surface of  250 m2. One extends the master bedroom, the other frames the living room. Thanks to minimalist windows 4 m high, natural light and vegetation flow in. The rest areas are designed to blur the separation between outside and inside. An outdoor dining room adjoins the kitchen. There are no neighbours, so you really feel completely alone in the world! The shaded patio benefits from a perimeter sunshade, which dampens the radiation. Plantings and new trees extend the residence’s park

A carefully orchestrated decoration

The furniture by B & B Italia and Minotti, go hand in hand with the custom creations. “The owner had a fondness for the color blue, his lucky charm. I was able to convince him to choose more neutral tones and reserve the blue for details, in touches.” Laurence Sonck chose a range of beiges and greys, underlined by black, creating a cameo base. The whole is enlivened by brighter colors in which blue sometimes appears, without gaudiness. In the living room, an office area, with furniture covered in red leather (Hermès furniture, custom-made), offers its brightness. Strategically placed near the bay window, with a direct view of the terrace, it is arranged to make the most of natural light. The kitchen is in white and light gray tones. The harmonious whole creates a modern and contemporary interior, pleasant to live in!
