Instore – Brussels Cavell apartment

When Instore is given “carte blanche” to design an apartment, its team does not hesitate to opt for its favourite materials in a quest to create a visual and sensory interplay within the blank spaces.

To decorate this modern apartment in Cavell, Belgian designers Didier Bindels and Pierre Hoet decided to turn to the Kerakoll brand as their material of choice. From the walls to the ceilings, these plasters are used in different versions, but always in the same colour. This decision makes it possible to add texture to the surfaces without compromising on the homogeneity of the overall effect. Thanks to the large windows in the living rooms, the textures are gradually revealed as the light changes. The apartment’s apparent sobriety is suddenly transformed into a subtle exploration of complexity.

This attention to detail is also reflected in the choice of furniture and its studied geometric configuration. In collaboration with the Maxalto brand, the Brussels-based interior design studio opted for furnishings with a distinctively curved shape, designed to soften the apartment’s rectilinear layout. In the dining room, an ellipsoidal table is surrounded by chairs with undulating contours; in the living room, a circular rug stretches across the floor, complemented by beautifully rounded armchairs. In contrast, the kitchen, custom-designed by Molteni, and the fireplace, designed by Instore and crafted by one of its artisans, adopt more of a linear design. These clean and straight lines that are characteristic of the contemporary style, are offset by furniture that proudly shows off its curves, adding a certain organic quality to the overall effect.

Pierre Hoet and Didier Bindels, the founders of Instore, set out to create “ageless” interiors that retain their modernity even after many decades. Their approach is based on the use of noble, durable materials, which acquire a patina and beauty over time. Decorative coatings, for example, age differently according to light, passage or touch, bringing a unique life to surfaces. Instore has a particular propensity for using leather, stone and wood, materials that become more beautiful as they age, and is intent on coming up with designs that are capable of lasting 50 years, far removed from ephemeral trends. This vision of design ensures that each project is truly timeless.

Instore creates timeless interiors by combining minimalism and noble materials. The Instore hallmark has been built around minimalism without excess in a constant concern to preserve a certain warmth in its interiors. This spirit is reflected in the bathroom of this apartment, whose space is clad entirely in Kerakoll, forming a homogeneous box both in terms of colour and material. Boffi sanitaryware adds a touch of elegance. This approach continues in the bedroom, where the absence of superfluous decoration puts the spotlight on the very essence of the design. The bespoke walk-in wardrobe, again by Molteni, adds depth to the room’s immaculate walls. Each room manages to accomplish the perfect balancing act between functionality and aesthetics.
